On 20 May 1840 Wilder was elected a fellow of Eton. On 20 May 1885, he succeeded Dupuis as Vice-Provost at Eton. On 20 May 1890, in celebration of the anniversaries:
'...he received an address of congratulations from the School... A portrait was subscribed for by the Assistant Masters and painted by Mr. Wehrschmidt, a pupil of Professor Herkomer, and placed in College Hall...'

Wilder was a Fellow of King’s College Cambridge, Rector of Sulham, assistant master at Eton (1824-40), Fellow of Eton College (1840-85) and Vice Provost of Eton College (1885-92).
