'The Committee [of the Old Etonian Association] are taking steps to procure a portrait of the Rt. Hon. A. J. Balfour, M.P., to be hung in the School Hall...
At 4 o'clock in the afternoon School Hall was crowded with visitors and guests for the unveiling by Earl Curzon of Kedleston of the portrait of the Right Hon. A. J. Balfour painted by Mr. Fiddes Watt, which was presented to the School by the Old Etonian Association.'

['Events of the Year', Eton College Chronicle, No.1638, Monday December 13, 1917, p.341]

'THE FOURTH was even more crowded than usual... and this is greatly owing to the presence of the Right Hon. A. J. Balfour, whose portrait was unveiled in School Hall in the afternoon... In short, this Fourth will always be remembered owing to the presentation of Mr. Balfour's portrait, and the memorable speeches made at the ceremony. The first event was speeches at 12 in the School Hall, the Right Hon. A. J. Balfour attending.'
