Lyttelton, Edward, 1855 - 1942 (Sitter)
In this half-length portrait, Rev. the Hon. Canon Edward Lyttelton (1855–1942) is shown in clerical dress. He succeeded Dr Warre as Head Master at Eton in 1905, aged 49, and remained in the post until 1916. He had previously been the Head at Haileybury (since 1890). Edward Lyttelton was the 7th son of Conservative politician George, 4th Baron Lyttelton and his brothers included politician and sportsman Alfred Lyttelton (1857-1913) and General Sir Neville Lyttelton (1845-1931).
