Comments

Laura Andorsen was born Laura Marie Lewis, in Newport, South Wales. Her second marriage was to Harald Andorsen, a Norwegian shipbroker based in London. The couple had one son, Harold (born 1885), who attended Eton College from 1898 to 1903.

Mrs Andorsen began to make enquiries to the fashionable portrait artist Philip de László about having her portrait painted in July 1924. However, it was four years before the sittings took place. Her son, who became a successful barrister, later bequeathed the painting to his old school, along with other items, including a marble Buddha, books and an ebony and ivory cabinet.
