Comments

This work may be loosely based on a Reynolds portrait, which shows the sitter wearing Vandyke costume, with shoulders facing right and head turned further to the left (private collection). See: 'Sir Joshua Reynolds: A Complete Catalogue of His Paintings' by David Mannings, published 2000, p.257, catalogue number 905.
