'The son of the 3rd Earl of Tankerville, he succeeded his father in October 1767. He served as joint Postmaster General in the 1780s.
His father was one of John Burton's commoners at Winchester and his portrait was painted for Burton in 1731.'
[Note: Burton was the Head Master of Winchester College from 1724 to 1766. Portraits of 'Dr. Burton's Commoners' where portraits of boys at the school, painted while they were at Winchester, rather than after they left, as is the case for Eton Leaving Portraits.
