Comments
The sitter was a boy at Eton College from 1758 to 1768.
Once thought to be a portrait by Benjamin West, this work is now considered to be by Nathaniel Hone. It was commissioned when Dr John Foster (1731-1774) was Head Master at Eton (1765-1773) and was probably commissioned by the sitter or his family for Foster.

Barrister, Lincoln’s Inn. Died March 18, 1823.
