Joseph Simpson.

Born 1824, son of Joseph Simpson, of Clapham, Surrey. Entered Eton, 1839; left 1843; Newcastle Medallist, 1843. Trinity College, Cambridge; Scholar, first-class Classics. Fellow of Jesus College, Cambridge. Became a Roman Catholic Priest.

30 x 25 inches. Painter uncertain.

Half-length, facing spectator; black coat and cravat.'

The sitter was a pupil at Eton College from 1839 to 1843 and became a Newcastle Medallist in 1843.
