An oil painting on panel of an unknown boy in Montem costume. (In the centre of the window on your right) Between this painting and the acquiring of the costume the hat has changed and the shoes painted over.
Bought in 1980'
'A Georgian costume of blue velvet worn ceremoniously at Eton College, known as the Montem Suit. Comprising: bonnet with white ostrich feather, white silk waistcoat with velvet cloak, knee length silk breeches with blue gussets, waistbelt and lace crevat. With this Lot is an oil painting on framed panel of the vendor's ancestor wearing this costume. painted with a little artistic licence. (I.E. no gussets in bonnet on actual costume). GC.'
