Comments

This work was painted as an illustration to 'Eton in Prose & Verse: An Anthology' (published 1910), written by Arthur Campbell Ainger (1841–1919), an Assistant Master at Eton College.

The artist, Arthur Paine Garratt, was a prominent black and white illustrator and also worked as a copyist. There are some 11 oil paintings by Garratt in UK public collections and two works on paper by him in the Royal Collection.
