Comments
Son of Thomas Storer of Westmoreland, Jamaica. At Eton, Storer was a friend of Charles Fox, Lord Carlisle and others. Through the influence of Carlisle he held various posts in the Government and travelled in the United States of America in the years 1778-9. Known as a man of fashion and an excellent dancer, in 1781, according to Walpole, he began to devote himself to antiquarian pursuits and assembled a very fine collection of printed books and engravings. He was in particular a fanatical grangeriser. He bequested his collection to Eton College Library.
Robert Edridge Pine (1730-1788)
Pine was born in London and was taught by his father, an engraver. He was a successful portrait painter in Bath but moved to America, where he died. He painted George Washington.
