An abstract sculpture of a figure on the cross; layered in sheets of glass; four tiered black base
Comments
This glass sculpture was originally intended for Portsmouth Cathedral, where Merchant’s work is represented by a glass lectern and candlesticks. It is one of his later glass sculptures, and was made at Leamington with help of Michael Bedingfield who showed Merchant how to build laminated sheet glass into three-dimensional forms. His ambitious work in glass, Golgotha, is in the foyer of Church House, Westminster.
