Frederick J. R. Coleridge
Sculpted portrait head on a plinth, with a plaque
The sitter, Frederick J. R. Coleridge, was a King's Scholar at Eton from 1921 to 1926. He he returned as an assistant master (regular teacher) in 1931. He then served in the King's Royal Rifle Corps during World War II, attaining the rank of major. After his return to Eton, he was appointed Master in College and occupied this role from 1946 to 1949. For the next 17 years he served as a House Master and, from 1965 to 1967, as Lower Master. Coleridge was elected Vice-Provost in 1967 and retired in 1979.
