Title
Medieval pilgrim badge 1/2
Description
1/2 pewter medieval pilgrim badge. The depiction on the badge links it firmly with pilgrimage to Eton College (founded by King Henry VI in 1440), and was dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The Feast of the Assumption is 15 August; an occasion on which pilgrimage to Eton was popular.
Features
Unlike the second badge, the sharded border is incomplete, indicating some breakaway (through damage) from the original deisgn. This badge is the left of the two, as seen in its current display.
