A rare carved earring made from the casque of a rhinoceros hornbill, which is the national bird of Sarawak. This material and that taken from its relation, the helmeted hornbill, was traded for centuries from Borneo to China, where its value was greater than gold. Today, the birds are protected as an endangered species and the trade is strictly prohibited.'
