Provenance

Donation inscription on t.p.: "1616. Ex dono Edwardi Burwell quondam alumni huius Col: Anno Eliz: primo". Burwell was KS c.1556-1561, according to Sterry (v. 1, p. 56), but this inscription may imply a start date of 1558. "Burwell" is also written on the t.p., presumably in Burwell's hand.

Contemporary English brown calf; blind tooled with triple fillet, and frame of decorative roll showing medallions and zodiac signs (Oldham, English Blind-Stamped Bindings, no. 805) and central panel of foliage (Oldham, EBSB, no. 634); blind tooled double fillet along board edges; blind tooled single fillet on spine; double-corded; remains of clasps; red morocco spine label with gold tooled letters; later mend at head of spine; title written on fore-edge "lucubrat. monat Tullij"; wooden boards.
