Bound volume containing extracts from poems by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Felicia Dorothea Hemans, William Wordsworth, Samuel Rogers and William Lisle Bowles.
Designed by two sisters known only by the acronyms given on the dedication leaf. Given to Dr. Balston, headmaster at Eton, during a continental tour in 1865. One sister was responsible for the calligraphy and the other for the drawings.
Given to ECL by Lady Enid Cain in 1981. Autograph letter signed from Lady Cain and typed reply are loosely inserted.
Blue morocco blocked in black ; gilt fleurons on spine and boards ; marbled endpapers ; tissue guards protect each leaf.
