Provenance

Copy 4: Loosely inserted ALS from Leonard Whibley to Mr [Henry] Broadbent dated 12 March 1928 concerning a copy of the facsimile that he posted "this morning" and noting that "when the plate was made, the photographer covered some of Gray's marginal notes - including his note on the date of writing & publication. These you will see in Mathias' copy." Whibley further notes that he made a copy of Gray's "Play exercise at Eton ... a poem of about 70 lines, reminiscent of Lucretius, and not of any special merit".
