Administrative / Biographical history
Gaspard Oliver Farrer was at Eton from September 1873 to December 1878, in Dr Warre's house. He subsequently became a partner in the firm of Farrer & Co. The main object of his generous gift to the College was to enable the buildings along Baldwin's Shore to be lowered by one storey to improve the view of the Chapel but this involved building a new boys' house into which to decant the inhabitants. The skill with which this gift was managed almost doubled the original amount and provided funds for a second boys' house, a theatre and a continuing maintenance fund.
