Chalcots, Middlesex: Letter of complaint over Steeles Mews
Item
29 July 1916
1 Item
Typed letter to Hallowes and Carter from Harry Plowman asking them to approach Messrs Dolman and Pearce, who are offering rooms in the South Mews, with a suggestion to try and get a tenant without rabble of noisy children. Plowman notes that the nuisance has become worse, and has been supplemented by a gang of hobbledehoys who assemble of an evening to smoke cigarettes and use filthy language. This nuisance has led to tenants of the North Mews making serious complaints, and Mr Robinson has communicated with the police without result. The police say that they have orders not to interfere with children playing. There will soon be another house to let, and the number will be augmented by Plowman, as his family cannot stand to have their nerves racked in the way they have been.
