A King's Scholar, he went on to King's in 1662, and became a fellow there 1665 - 1677. He became tutor to several illegitimate sons of Charles II and also Rector of Stamford Rivers, Essex. From 1691 he was also a Prebendary of Westminster. In 1677 he was elected a Fellow of Eton and is buried in College Chapel.
