Land was acquired under licence, early 1500s, see ECR 39/148, but Thorne was Abbot until 1519. The land included property in Eton and Windsor from Bost's feoffees

1. Provost Roger Lupton and the College of Eton by Windsor 2. Abbot John Thorne and the Abbey of the Virgin Mary, Reading.
Henry VII by his letters patent granted the College of Eton the right to acquire lands, tenements, services etc to the value of £27 p.a. notwithstanding the statute of mortmain. The College agrees to pay customary rents etc due for lands so acquired which belong to the Abbey of Reading, and to pay the Abbey 13s 4d on the death of the Provost.
