Saw a cutter escorting a French prize to Portsmouth; the ship was the Endeavour of Cowes, previously captured and renamed by the French. The 'mobility' at Portsmouth continue to insult the Bucks officers; proposal to burn the Marquess of Bath in effigy; 1500 men were assembled and the officers drew their swords. Looking forward to seeing them at Eton; will be glad to have Camilla if Mrs Goodall has finished it. Describes curious dress of German hussars camped at east Cowes. PLACE: [Cowes]
