Describes institution to living of Ellingham; difficult to find a curate but previous incumbent, the Marquis of Graham's tutor at Eton [John Hawtrey] will help. Well entertained at Moyle Place, built by Lady Lisle, then at Christchurch by George Rose; describes his house [Cuffnells]. Vicarage worth £71 1s 10d pa with a small bad house and he will pay a curate £35; hopes to raise receipts to £120. Lost his opportunity to speak to Mr Rose about a canonry. Mentions party at Eton with the Hallams, the Provost, Dr Heath, and others, also christening of Mary Keate. Refers to hopes of obtaining a canonry. Mrs Thackeray better.
