Health; operation to discharge fluid at Brighton; admired the Chain Bridge and the almost finished sea wall; alterations stupendous and many of the buildings magnificent. Recent Election unanimous but displeased that the Fellows spoke with each other before consulting the Provost. Dined outside the Lodge to welcome the new Fellow [G. Dupuis] and Lower Master [R. Okes], also elected unanimously. Proposals for new railway from Slough to Windsor to pass the other side of the Brocas trees. Meetings to establish new charities. Promise of a print of his portrait from Lord Chandos; has hung one of Judge Bayley and expects one of Lord Denman; will purchase one of the Queen to hang with that presented by 'her late Majesty'. Death of John Wright [Fellow 1821-1838]; in debt; the Greens go into Mr Wright's house and Plumptre gives up his claim to their house in favour of Dupuis. Dupuis can keep his pupils until Easter. Mr Hexter has ceded the house formerly Mrs Young's to the new assistant Mr Abraham, who intends to build a new house. PLACE: The Lodge, Eton College
