State of health made him decline Vice-Presidency of the Buckinghamshire Archidiaconal Board of Education. Pleased Queen Victoria is not coming to Windsor as it would be inconvenient to be at St George's on Easter Day. 'She seems less a favorite than ever. Too many I fear identify her with her ministers'. Subscription for Forman of Wargrave whose house was burnt down; boy who died a nephew of John Hookham Frere, the anti-Jacobin; his brother an Etonian [Temple Frere]. Great alarm at so many artillery being sent to Weedon Beck; apprehension over Chartists. Queen Victoria and her mother 'not on comfortable terms'; public opinion blames 'petulance' of the Queen. List of Newcastle winners and select for 1839.
