Content description
His dinner over; lists guests including Sir Charles Metcalf. Mrs Goodall and others have gone to see the Boats. Note sent to present Captain of School informing him that Mr Crawfurd was expected to resign King's; doubts about his sanity; his father and brother-in-law disapprove as he would be left penniless. If this and possible second resignation come, will give Tindull [Henry Tindal KS] an exhibition at Oxford. Visitor has sanctioned an appeal which will be very unpleasant; father who wished to force a boy on the electors is now dead. Have been applied to in a civil manner by the railroad directors; have replied that without withdrawal of proposal for line from Slough through Eton can entertain no proposal. Colonel Proctor made a CB owing to the Coronation. Later addition: only one resignation arrived. Annotated 1840.
