Monday morning, 21 April. Pleased at the admiration Goodford shows for his efforts. Pleased that the work that comes nearest to satisfying him should fall into the hands of a man such as Bowman 'and not a little proud that it should be saved from the talons of some ignorant and purseproud upstart' but would be prepared to exchange it for something else if Bowman saw something of his he liked better. Has been unwell or would have accepted his invitation to Mapledurham.
