Letter from Frederick Spencer (1798-1857) 4th Earl Spencer, regretting that as he resigned the post of Lord Chamberlain on 5th he is unable to "take measures for the cessation of the nuisance" but he has forwarded the letter to his successor. Regrets that the ill-health of Lady Spencer makes it impossible for him to invite Hawtrey to Althorp to see the library "I am the unworthy possessor of".
