Provost Barnard: Letter of condolence to a friend
Item
19 October 1767
Letter from Edward Barnard to [George Townshend, 1724-1807, 4th Viscount & 1st Marquess], condoling with him on the death of his brother Charles Townshend (1725-1767) and congratulating him on his appointment as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. Accepts with "the utmost diffidence and regret" the task of composing a suitable inscription for the monument to Charles. "Both our little friends are well" (presumably George Townshend (1753-1811) and John Townshend (1757-1833), the Viscount's sons, then at Eton)
