Concerned at the prospect of crowds attending the Carnival on the Playing Fields because of the danger of bombs. Provost: 'While it is quite right to take proper precautions against likely dangers, it is also quite wrong to disturb oneself about remote dangers. Everybody must die some day, and to be afraid of being bombed is foolish and unworthy'.
