In course of his work on biography of Geoffrey Dawson has found references to discussions about being considered for Provost in 1936. Provost: difficult to name individuals who wanted him (Marten, George Gordon, Provost of Magdalen, Richard Austen-Leigh, Jasper Ridley) in Lord Quickswood's lifetime. Wrench: would Elliott prefer him to omit references to wish of von Ribbentrop to enter his son at Eton. Elliott: was told that refusal was taken very badly.
