Letters from Charles James Rowlatt /1 Cannot manage to meet; in training as a reserve nd /2 Returned [to University College, Oxford] the day before; people seen and letters received, 16 January 1914 /3 Glad Lambart is in the Greek play; cannot see him for breakfast because of rowing training; relationship with Myles, [2 Feb 1914] /4 Stiff from playing rugger; complains of childish atmosphere of the college and not working hard, [4 March 1914] /5 Could not come to Eton because it took two days to drive from Cornwall to Oxford though hopes to come from Henley; has seen poem on fireworks which Lambart recommended; intends to go out sketching, 24 June 1914 /6 Apologises for not coming to Cambridge; gloom at war; agrees it is 'a got-up job by the German Emperor'; has volunteered, [13 August 1914] /7 Oxford better than expected; recalls enjoyable [Corps] camp at Borden (where Lambart is stationed), [22 Oct 1914] /8 Alteration in leave arrangements; billets not as satisfactory as camp for training; senior officers including Sir Foster Cunliffe arriving slowly; played the Field Game at Eton last weekend, 18 Dec 1914 /9 Cannot obtain Company bicycle to come over but invites Lambart over; other Old Etonians seen; folly of war, [1 July 1915] /10 About to go to trenches; envies Lambart his visit to Eton and King's and the services; people met and correspondents, [13 Dec 1915] /11 -13 empty envelopes 1914-1918
