Educated at Winchester, Snow came to Eton as an assistant master in September 1925. He was subsequently ordained, and left in March 1936 to become Chaplain of Charterhouse. In 1947 he was appointed headmaster of Ardingly College, where he remained until his appointment as Bishop of Whitby in 1961, a post he filled for 10 years. He was appointed a Prebendary of Chichester in 1959.

Religion at Eton. Majority of boys bored by official religion; given little religious instruction; atmosphere of insincerity - lack of interest by Masters in desk. In all other aspects of school life, great trouble taken. Lower Chapel disputes between Baker, Ley and Marten; rotation of clergy fatal. Need for a man whose one object in life is his religion; uncertain whether he would be any more successful than the existing clergy; does not know what to doPLACE: Oberland Hotel, Adelboden, Switzerland
