Copy of Letters Patent, at his supplication, granting William, Prior of Modbury, sixteen marks a year for seven years for the reconstruction of the Church and buildings of the Priory, which are in a bad state of disrepair, to be paid by the King's farmers, John Fortescu, henry Drewe, John Offord, clerk, and Richard Brounste, to whom the Priory had been leased by letters patent for seven years for a rent of twenty four pounds. And grasnt to the said Prior for his life for a yearly rent of twenty marks. The Priory, a cell of the Abbey of St. Peter super Dyvam, used to pay a rent(apportum) of forty shillings to the said Abbey, The Prior is "institutus et inductius" and not "dativus et removabilis". The Priory came into the hands of the Crown in the late wars with France and so remains notwithstanding the faithful obedience of the Abbey.
