Licence by Natalis, Abbot of the monastery of the Blessed Mary de Espineto of St. Peter super Fivam, and the Convent, for Dominus John de Musmer(?), a monk of the order, to stay in the Priory of Modbury for five years, provided always that he observes the rule of the order and does not turn to apostasy. He may return to the monastery, if he wishes, during that time, and will find a place there. Certificate that he is a good monk, of laudable life. If he dies, he is to recieve ecclesiastical burial and all the orthodox sacraments.
Endorsed:- (In 17th or 18th hand.) "Of little use".
Seals:- Two pointed oval Seals, green wax, pendent on doubled tags.
(1) Seal of the Abbey, 62.mm. in good condition The Blessed Virgin seated with the Holy Child in her left arm, under canopy and between a key and a fleur de lys.
(2) Seal of the Abbot, 40.mm. originally about 60.mm. the sides and base broken away. The blessed Virgin and an angel holding a scroll, standing; a key above and a fleur de lys between their knees, the whole in an architectural surround.
