Extracts from the bishop's registers, diocese of Salisbury, relating to the patronage of the vicarage of Esturmynster in the deanery of Whytcherch, co. Dorset.

(1) Inspeximus by Richard (Poole), bishop of Salisbury, of the admission by Herbert (Poole) his predecessor, on the presentation of Richard de Raxineto, of Master Thomas Chebleth to the perpetual vicarage of the church of Esturmynstre, of the house of the infirm brothers of St Giles of Pont Audemer, with its appurtenances, and the chapels of Corf, Lychett and Hamma and lands (named) appertaining, with Alberic, archdeacon of Berkshire Peter Abraham and Adam, chaplains, Henry de Pokeleston, Hugh de Adenton, Hugh de Templo, Roger de Ampton, clerks, William de Capella and many others, given at Chelk by the hands of William de Wynton 15 October 1206: the confirmation to the said house of Pont Audemer of the tithes of Sturminster Newton, Almer, Comba (Combe) and Hymbury and lands in Esturmynstre (described). Given at Salisbury 1 January 1220. Witnesses: the dean, Abraham the treasurer, Master W de Marcoun, Luke the canon, John the chaplain, Valentine the clerk and others.

(2) Presentation by the successors of R de fraxineto of dominus William Godynhyll.

(3) Item. In the register of Medford; an inquisition, the commissioners being John de Meydenhed and George Lowthorpp, canons of Salisbury. (Then King Richard presented dominus William Denysse).
At the inquisition were summoned Thomas Gorge, John Hallen and many others in the parish church of Esturmynstre Marchall Tuesday after the feast of St Clement, 26 November 1398, and there rectors and vicars of the deanery of Wythcherch, who fouond that before the war the presentation belonged to the said house of Pont Audemer, but on account of the war to the King; and thus the said vicar was admitted 27 November 1398. And they said that John Gorge pretended to the patronage, but found that the King was the true patron.

(4) In the register of Robert Halam (1408-1417) Joan, queen of England, presented domini John Langthorn and William Marnhyll, by reason of her custody of an alien priory.

(5) In the register of Robert Nevyle (1427-1437) Joan the queen presented William Man.

(6) In the register of Richard Beauchamp (1450-1482) William Westbury, provost of Eton, and the College, presented Master John Bonour, bachelor of theology.

(7) Extract from the parliament roll 20 Henry VI (1442) reciting the part relating to Sturminster Marshall in th royal grant to Eton College.
