Content description
15th century copy of the original bull of Eugenius. Confirmation of the foundation of the college. The foundation by the King is described; and the giving of their assent, at the request of the King's proctor, William Lynde, of William, bishop of Salisbury, Thomas Bekynton and Richard Andrew, doctors of law, and William Lyndewode, doctor of both laws, commissaries appointed for the purpose by William, bishop of Lincoln and the erection of the parish church of Eton, upon the free resignation of the rector John Kette, into a collegiate church; and the induction of the first provost by Bekynton on 20 October 1440. The Bull exemplifies the letters of the commissaries, signed by Robert Kent, notary public, and bearing the seal of the bishop of Salisbuty, which exemplify the following:
1) The commission 29 September 1440 from the bishop of Lincoln
2) The Royal Letters Patent 11 October 1440 founding the college
3) The Royal Letters Patent 12 September 1440 appointing Robert Kent, William Lynde and William Waryn as the King's proctors for the execution of the same.
