Stogursey, Somerset: Decree concerning burdens on the priory

Decree by William, bishop of Bath and Wells, after a visitation of the priory of Stokes Curcy [Stogursey], made 10 September 1270, that owing to the burden of dues and corrodies exacted by Robert, abbot of Lonlay, formerly prior of the same, three monks are to be sent to the abbey, to stay there until the said burdens are reduced; and citation of the abbot to appear and answer for the dilapidation and alienation of the goods of the priory.
Seal, pointed oval, originally about 70mm, natural colour wax, on doubled tag. The bishop, robed, with staff in left hand, right hand raised in blessing. Sides and feet broken away.
