Stogursey, Somerset: Indenture of lease of messuage

Indenture of lease by John Bridgewater, clerk, parson of Wotton Courtney, canon resident of the cathedral of Wells, to Thomas Wensley, yeoman, Joan, his wife, and William, their son, of a messuage in Wootton Courtney called Hunteshame alias Huntshame with 24 acres of arable on the north of the highway leading to Dunster, and 16 on the south of the same, three closes containing 7 acres and the herbage of a parcel of ground called Southwood containing 2 acres held by Robert Bryante and occupied by the said Thomas; for their lives in survivorship. Rent 26s 8d.
With the ratification on 16 March of the foregoing by William Daye, provost, patron of the church, and agreement that the lesses shall pay 40s yearly in addition to the rent specified.
Seals. (1) Red wax, round, on doubled tag, in cloth. "per me Johannem Bryggewater". (2) The College Seal, red wax, on doubled tag. Cracked.
