Title
Beckford, Gloucestershire and Colsterworth, Lincolnshire: Indenture of agreement
Level
Item
Date
[13th century]
Content description
Indenture of agreement between William de Caltorp and the canons of Colsterworth concerning pools and the mill.
Doubled tag for seal which is missing.
On the tag are two lines of writing and the tops of the letters of the next line. On the left hand against each line is written probacio penne, apparently not by the same hand or at least not with the same ink as what follows which appears to be by the writer of the foregoing deed and reads: Sciant presentes et futuri quod hec convencio inter Alanum filium Godardi et Adam Tiret de Grahan facta ad festum Sancti Michaelis proximum postquam J. rex Anglie fecit sumonere...suum apud Cant' scilicet quod idem Alanus dimisit ad firmam eidem Ade et heredibus suis iiij sellones terre in campis de Berheb' scilicet quas cepit in mariagio cum uxore sua scilicet....
This seems to be part of a draft of a deed written on a rough piece of parchment on which other things were already written viz. probacio penne and, across the middle at right angles to the rest of the writing and jumped by it, meg' salutem.
