Bloxham, Oxfordshire: Letter concerning payment of procurations
Item
27 November 1683
Philip Boucher, to the Rev. Dr Hawtrie [Hawtrey], one of the bursars of Eton College, saying that he has paid his lady's (Mrs Cartwright's) rent to "your Bargman". The vicar of Bloxham sent her a copy of a record out of the Bishop's court at Lincoln stating that there was a sum of 7s 7d due from the rectory of Bloxham to the archdeacon of Oxford for procurations, which were seven years behind. She then sent to Lincoln and had a copy made under two notaries hands, differing from the one the vicar sent. The two copies are enclosed and she entreats her landlords to persue them and send their opinion. Boucher says "I have belonged to the family 30 years and never know this ever paid or demanded and I am informed the vicar paid it alwaies till about this 7 years past."
