Content description

A terrier of the glebe lands, medows, gardens and other tythes belonging to ye vicaridg and parsnidg of Stratfield Mortimer in ye county of Berks is as follows:
There belongeth unto ye vicaridge of ye sd parish one mansion house, a garden, a barn, a cow-house, a stable, a house, two orchards, adjoyning all next to an orchard of John Payce, yeoman, now in ye tenure of ye sd John Payce:
Iten there belongeth to ye sd vicaridge 5 closes of arable land, contyaing by estimation eleven acres, whereof 4 closes are joying together, between ye lands of ye said John Paice, and of ye said 2 orchards belonging to the said vicaridge and ye east part, and ye lands of Trustram Ham on ye south part, ye lands of Joane Ryder widow on ye west and n-west part of ye lands in ye tenure or occupation of Leonard Stacy on ye north part. The other close abutteth upon ye common or heath west, upon ye lands now in ye occupation of ye said Leonard Stacy east, between ye lands of ye said wid: Ryder on ye south and ye grounds of John Godwyn on ye northside:
Item the tythes and duties belonging to ye said vicaridg are these viz. ye Easter offerings for communicants, ye duties for marriage and for churching of women, ye herbage of ye churchyard and all manner of tythes (saving the tythes of hay and corn), and heretofore the tythe-wood was parted between the vicar and ye farmer of ye parsnidg by an agreement, as appears by a terrier bearing date ye 2nd of Jan. anno dom 1608, which terrier now is in ye Registry of ye ld bp of Sarum:
Item there belongeth unto ye parsonage of ye said parish one mansion house, hease, backside, garden, 2 barns, a cow-house, a stable, one orchard, and one piddle next adjoying to ye said orchard, containing by estimat helfe an acre, abounding next unto wid: Baghusts lands on ye south west, and next unto ye common Worden on ye north:
Item there belongeth unto ye said Parsnidg one mead-plot being by estimat halfe an acre, abounding on ye south east with ye great park and one ye brook on ye n-west part:
Item there belongeth to the said Parsonage 5 severall closes adjoyning together containing be estimat 20 acres, and one coppice adjoying to ye said grounds, containing by estimat 7 acres adjoyning to ye street on ye south-west side, and ye lands of Will: James on ye n-west side, now in ye tenure of Nich: Grantam:
Item there belongeth unto ye said Parsonage ye tythcorn & hay, and ye tyth-wood now ye parson hath:
Item there belongeth unto ye said parsnidg 2 crops of corn together in ye common-worden, and then the said worden is to ly common 5 years together next after ye said 2 crops.
