Cottisford and Fringford, Oxfordshire: Letter enclosing particulars of estate
Item
28 June 1776
J.R. Greenhill, Cottisford, to Mr Edward Palmer giving him information about the lands he holds in Cotisford [Cottisford] and enclosing ECR 26 175 and ECR 26 287. "The pleasant situation and the clean country, to both of which I am extremely partial, together with its neighbourhood to Fringford, which I have been rector of near 20 years (but had no house there I could possible live in) tempted me to give a very extravagant price for my purchase here 3 years ago. It is true, I bought it by auction, but afterwards found that no real bidder amounted to £6000; but their own people, knowing I was determined to have it, run me up to £7300. I have hitherto not made 3 per cent of my money". His bailiff and housekeeper have instructions to welcome Mr Palmer when he comes. He himself will be at North Allerton, Yorkshire.
