Cottisford, Oxfordshire: Deposition concerning freehold land

Deposition of John Arden, farmer of Cottesford [Cottisford], concerning Pygot's freehold:
There was one John Barres that dyd take the howse of Eton College by lease and when Kynge Edwarde put downe Kynge Henry the vjth than Kynge Edwarde had thowghte to have put downe the College and than the same Barrys had thowghte to hym selfe and was gratyous to the Collge ageyne and then thys Barrys solde yt to one Adderbery or Aderbery and that Aderbery solde yt to one John Samwell of Cottesforde and John Samwell gave yt to one Robert Arden to the maryage of hys syster and that there was one Rychard Samwell sonne to John Samwell whan hys syster was deade wolde have had the lond ageyne and the lawe wolde not and then he sawe that the College had the righte to the londe and then was Thomas Arden aferde of the tytle and solde yt to Thomas Langton and then was Thomas Langeton aferde of hys tytle and wolde have gyven the College the patronage of Tusmare [Tusmore] to have byn at a poynte with theyme. And then the said Thomas desyryd that Thomas Pygot mighte loke apon there evydence for bothe the partyes and than Thomas Pygot sayde that Thomas Langeton showlde not shere hys evydence for yf he dyd he shulde lease all.
