Weedon Bec, Northamptonshire: Grant of moiety of manor
Item
c.1138
Grant by Robert earl of Leicester to the church of St Mary of Bec of a moiety of the manor of Odona [Weedon Bec], which moiety Roger de Tedbolvill while still young gave to the said church and William his son also gave, after the death of his father. To hold free and quit of all scutage and aid and service. And grant also of the land of Derintona [Durrington] which Robert de Bellomonte gave them free and quit of the same. He has done this for the redemption of his soul and the salvation of himself, his brother, his sister and all his friends.
Seal, about 75mm, constructed of a thread coated with natural colour wax wound round and round a centre to make a circle. There seems to have been no impression on the surface. A most unusual seal.
