Content description
14th century copy of release by Symon de Monteforti [Simon de Montfort], earl of Leicester, to the abbot and monks of Bec of all suit belonging to himself and his heirs from their men in the manor of Wedon [Weedon Bec]. But his bailiff is to have entry twice a year at the abbot's court for holding the view of frankpledge. Whatever profit may come from the said view is to remain to the abbot and monks by his gift; saving to the grantor and his bailiff the power, if anyone shall complain of the said abbot, of exhibiting justice according to the law of the land in the county of Northampton; saving also to the bailiff who shall make the said view at Wedon his competent lodging.
