Title
Weedon Bec, Northamptonshire: Letter concerning enclosure
Level
Item
Date
25 March 1776
Content description
Thomas Freeman, Daventry, to Rev. Dr Roberts, Eton College, concerning the inclosure. "I well hop'd that the subject of the College as lords of the manor claiming a compensation as such had been sufficiently debated and well understood when I was last at Eton, and I think I then mention'd about 40 instances where the lords neither claimed nor had any and I mention'd about 4 where the lords claim'd and had a small compensation, and even in two of those 4 I myself was oblig'd to furnish words to make the clauses ever tolerable and fit to read." "Mr Deacon, Mrs Rawlin's son in law, a considerable proprietor is now at my house, reading your letter, and declared he knows not one opponent." He will be at Will's Coffee House in Serle Street on Thursday next for 4 or 5 days.
