Everdon, Northamptonshire: Warrant to enter property
Item
20 October 1637
Warrant, by the Provost and College to Richard Birde, bailiff of the manor of Everdon, and Henry Sayer, register of the College, to enter the customary lands and tenements of Richard Cottesford and seize the same into the hands of the lord. At a court held on 11 July 1636 the homage had presented that the said Cottesford had cut down and carried away and sold divers timber trees of the value of £30. The homage doubted whether the sale was warranted by the custom of the manor. A diligent search had been made in the Court Rolls of the manor of various periods and many presentments had been found in which such an action had been treated as an offence.
