Everdon, Northamptonshire: Petition for assistance
Item
19 June 1716
Petition signed by ten inhabitants of Everdon to the Provost and Fellows, on behalf of the widow Keble whose husband was killed by a waggon falling on him. She was advised by the bailiff and Mr Henry Matthews that the lords of the manor were entitled to the deodand, and when the first process was issued against her on behalf of the Crown she was advised not to pay it, as the lords would take care to stop the proceedings in the Crown office. But she has since been several times arrested for it, lay in gaol some time and is now obliged to leave her business for fear of being taken up again.
